The Lights Are On But There's Nobody Home
When it comes to saving energy and saving money, you'd be surprised how the simple things get missed. Are you the type of person that leaves the light on in every room you visit in the house?
Although you might think that light bulbs don't consume much energy you'd be surprised just how much less power a household will use just be making sure that lights are switched off when they're not needed.
An obvious step you can take to help in this respect is to change your lightbulbs to energy saving bulbs. Traditional incandescent bulbs transfer most of the energy they us into heat and relatively very little into light. While they are bright and the light they emit is more comforting and warm looking than some modern energy savers, they are very inefficient.
The main way to lower electricty usage though, is still to make sure that lights are not left switched on when the room is not in use. Try and get into the habit of switching lights off when you leave a room. If this doesn't work, try putting some reminders around the house to help you. This doesn't have to be an unsightly sign, it could just be a small sticker on a door handle or a similar innocuous marking that you know is reminder to put the lights out.
It's true that few things beat a good long soak, but just being aware of how often you do it, and making a change to showers when it's more convenient, could save you real money.
